"So if I wish to describe Aglaura to you, sticking to what I personally saw and experienced, I should have to tell you that it is a colorless city, without character, planted there at random. But this would not be true, either: at certain hours, in certain places along the street, you see opening before you the hint of something unmistakable, rare, perhaps magnificent; you would like to say what it is, but everything previously said of Aglaura imprisons your words and obliges you to repeat rather than say."
Invisible Cities, Italo Calvino
I take the same walks around Lisbon (and all the places I love) over and over again. I always find that hint of the beautiful and transfiguring, a special kind of happiness in the details, and I never cease to try to say those ineffable words. Even if I'll just end repeating myself.

Last weekend I had a book and theater related walk around Lisbon. I visited two beautiful bookshops, got a Portuguese edition of some Virginia Woolf short stories, and went to see a staging of Virginia Woolf's "The Waves". A great weekend.
