Malhadal
Malhadal | Julho 2015
Malhadal is a special place. Incredibly quiet in the Winter, there's something of that stillness that holds even in the Summer, when the river pool is full of happy, chattering people. It has dense, dark green vegetation that dives straight into the water, and it's an immense pleasure to swim there, eyes very close to the water surface that mirrors the dark trees and, at the same time, shines bright with thousands of tiny stars of reflected sunlight.

I've been watching the night sky
Pergulho | Julho 2015
Pergulho, my mother's tiny village, is one of my favorite places on earth. It's very humble and unassuming, but I love its pine trees & shale woods, the winter brooks made by the rain, its old houses, its silence. It's also home to this special library and this place that I love.
And above all this, it has a vast sky that becomes immense by night, beautiful beyond words, so full of stars impossible to see in the city, planes silently roaming in the distance, and the milky way so clearly visible. It has witnessed countless family conversations, even in the dead of Winter, because we simply can't resist it.

a secret library
Pergulho | Julho 2015
These details belong to one of the best private libraries I have the privilege of knowing. It's small and unassuming, sometimes even a little forgotten, but it has an amazing, classic selection that makes it a pleasure to browse through. It also harbours some well chosen objects, and small family treasures that I love to discover and honour.

Mapping The World
Pergulho | Julho 2015
I really dislike the idea that good design can replace good content. And yet, I do love books as objects.
Mapping the World, from Folio Society, by Peter Whitfield, it's one of those books that achieve a graceful balance of great content and beautiful design: it's beauty is not there to congratulate itself but to make the pleasure of reading a really interesting book even bigger. And that is exactly what makes books like this so beautiful.

small things
Small things, from my travels and wanderings, that truly are living memories (and sometimes end up as special bookmarks to my favorite books).

Quiet night out
Lisboa | julho 2015
Walking around in the golden summer light of the city at dusk, good sushi, a dark and cozy coffee shop and a second hand bookstore that is open at night.
